One of the fascinations of collecting Native American art and crafts is that it represents an origin bound to the centuries past. Every piece is man-made and decorated according to tribal traditions. The distinctive artistic traditions of the North American indigenous tribes have shown a continuing vitality despite the generally devastating effects they have experienced during modern times.

Today this tradition is flourishing with younger artists both following and reinterpreting the traditions of the older culture and responding to the newer forces of their present life. Native American weavings, pottery, jewelry and beadwork are finding an enthusiastic reception within the tribal communities and non-native peoples as well.

 

We carry Native American jewelry, both modern and old pieces, made of high quality materials including sterling silver, natural American turquoise and other semi-precious stones, as well as abalone shell, bone and other natural materials. The jewelry we offer includes abstract and mystical designs, and fetishes. Additionally, we offer Concho belts handmade from sterling silver with or without turquoise stones.

 

Miles and Miles Trading Company also offers finely crafted Navajo rugs, some of which  date back to the 1890s, and others were recently woven by hand. Navajo rugs are traditionally named for the trading posts and  regional areas where they were woven  (for example: Wide Ruins, Two Grey Hills, Ganado, and Teec Nos Pas). All rugs are 100% natural sheep wool.

Also available are fine hand-made baskets made by indigenous tribes of the Northwest, Alaska and California.
